Definition of art

i think the definition of art is something a person does to express themselves whether it is through actual art or through word of mouth. It is what your belief in something contains. Every person has a different way of looking at something whether it is a situation or simply how you can relate to things like music.

World View of "American Pie"

The song "American Pie" seems to me to have a secular humanist world view:
1. God and the Universe
A. the only thing that exists in the song are things made by man which are important to him
2. Humanity and Identity
  A. man is lost and guilty and has nothing spiritual to believe in
3. Conflict and Suffering
 A. the conflict that he thinks God left him and he is alone in the world. He thinks his
hope or in the song "music" is gone and there is nothing he can do. They don't know
how to live without that hope restored.
4. Hope and Redemption
  A. His hope is in the things of the world but mainly it is in his music and for the people
around him it is in whiskey and rye. He doesn't know where to find hope when God
has left him.
5. Values and Relationship
 A. At the beginning of the song, he sees God in life around him but then he feels like
God deserted him. So he looks to the world for what he should value and need for life.
6. Truth and Knowledge
A. Truth to him is the symbol of music or materialistic hope. I don't think he believes in
absolute truths

difference between Oz and fight club

 In the Wizard of Oz the people believe that reality is how the see you personally see it, also that there is a supernatural where everything is God. Their personal reality is what they have experienced. Few have seen the wizard but they believe in him even though it is a man behind a curtain. This is similar to fight club because in his mind he thinks that there is another guy but in reality it is him doing everything. These two are in the imagination and the real reality is only what has been made up. 

demon mammon

the demon mammon in the context of paradise lost is looked at as a very materialistic demon. It says that he admired the riches in the pavement and the gold more than heaven itself. Him and his followers took over the minds of humans to thinking everything material is better than anything heaven can offer. He is the lowest of all fallen demons.
